In 1883 Mr Murdoch built a hall on the site as a meeting place for the community. When the Mechanics Hall was opened this hall became a shop. Some occupiers were McMullen, Draper; Stephenson, saddler and in 1960 Mrs Edna Campbell opened ‘Lindy May’ fashions. Other occupiers have been ‘The Mill Shop’, “Lifeline”, ‘Work Solutions’ and ‘Clerk of Court’ office.
Nos. 148 – 152 was used as a sale yard by Angus McDonald for farm machinery and other equipment.
In 1919 Les Hare acquired the site and continued to sell machinery and cars.
In 1925 he had petrol bowsers installed in the street.
In 1928 he built a showroom on the street frontage to display his cars.
The business was sold to Maryvale Motors in 1945.
In 1979 the building was converted to three shops
No. 148 remember ‘Bar 148’ Girls Girls Girls in 2005? It has been a restaurant, ‘Saltbush Cafe’ since 2011, then, The Daily Cafe and Food Store Opened in 2022
No. 150 was used for ‘Hot Chicken’ sales until 2000.
In 2006 Morwell Newsagency occupied the shop for a short time when their existing premises was burned.
In 2011 Gippsland Physiotherapy Group moved in.
No. 152 became a hot Bread shop. In 2006 it became Gourmet Café.
