John Rintoull purchased this Lot 4 Sec.1 when it was made available by the Government in 1878 and started a blacksmith shop.
F Wilson and John Lowe had a Wheelwright & Coachbuilder building at the rear.
The blacksmith shop closed and was demolished in 1939 by John Rintoull Jr. who erected three new shops on the site.
No. 156 was occupied by Riggall’s fruit shop but closed during WW2.
Sylvene’s Hairdressing started in 1945 and Chas Davies Chemist opened in 1949 with Ian Moller joining in 1962.
No. 158 was occupied by E.T Stammers, Tailor, and later in 1950 became Wardrop “My Tailor”
Later occupants being – The Salvation Army Family Store; The Mill Shop; NBA Group; Miller and Merrigan
