This solid brick hotel was built for William Murdoch by Mr Tulloch and completed in early 1888.
The bricks were made at Murdoch’s brick works in Morwell. Other licensees were Brown, Davey, Barry, Stroud, Coloe and Quinn.
In 1964 the site was sold to Woolworths and the hotel building was demolished by Mr Hinchcliffe and the site cleared for the building of a Woolworths Supermarket. The supermarket was opened in late 1966 and operated until June 1992.
Later the shop became known as ‘Manny’s Market’ which still operates (2020) with a number of different businesses occupying the premises.
